How To Scale Your Mission Through Literacy

Organizations, today more than ever, are seeing that the adult populations they serve have literacy gaps that can become major barriers to their mission. These barriers present themselves in a multitude of areas and can oftentimes prevent organizations from reaching their full potential.

With that in mind, we’ve identified three steps organizations can take to address the literacy gap within the constituents they serve:

Assess the Gap(s)

In order to address the gap, organizations must know what literacy needs the communities they serve have. Literacy gaps present themselves in several ways. In our experience, the most glaring disparities are in digital literacy, but they can show up everywhere from housing to healthcare to career navigation.

Build Communities

There are a multitude of organizations serving similar populations. These programs should not exist in silos. Community building is an opportunity to share best practices and assets relevant to the shared mission of each organization.

Deploy Resources

Once an organization has identified their gap(s), they need to be connected to the appropriate resources. From grant opportunities to mission advocacy to training, there are tools available to help better serve adults.

While there are several hurdles that organizations can face en route to fulfilling their mission, our perspective is provided through the lens of literacy. Please stay tuned for additional scaleLIT content. We will dive deeper into Assessing Gaps, Building Community and Deploying Resources.
